Kennebec River Tour, Maine Lighthouse Week, 2003

Light LectutreOn June 17, 2003, a delegation from the United States Coast Guard and other lighthouse people participated in a Kennebec River Tour from the Maine Maritime Museum to Seguin Island. A crew from the Range Light Keepers, skippered by Herb Hewlett, had the opportunity to meet the tour boat mid-river in Fiddler Reach and make a 10 minute presentation. Here Mike Kreindler draws the visitors' attention to our work at the Range Lights and Bell Tower.

Bell Tower with FlagThe bell tower was decorated with a flag in honor of the occasion, Maine Lighthouse Week. It was five years ago that the Maine Lights Program succeeded in deeding 28 lighthouses to caretakers throughout the state. The Range Light Keepers are proud to be one of the non-profit organizations entrusted with the care of a lighthouse site. The festivities of the day were organized by Anne Webster, who heads the Friends of Seguin, and was a key figure in administering the Maine Lights program.

In the late afternoon a reception was held at the Maritime Museum for the Kennebec River lighthouse organizations. Here Mike and Michele listen to one of speeches. At their left, Peter Ralston, one of the speakers and the Island Institute's man behind Maine Lights, glances at his notes.
